West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski to return in 'a couple of weeks' after hip injury scare

Fabianski left the pitch in some discomfort on Friday but is facing weeks on the sidelines, not months.

West Ham have been handed a fitness boost after confirming that the injury picked up by goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski in Friday night’s defeat to Sheffield United is not as bad as first feared.

The club say that the Polish ‘keeper, who missed a significant chunk of the first half of the season through injury, will only be out for two weeks.

Fabianski was forced off less than a quarter of an hour into the 1-0 loss at Bramall Lane, in what initially looked to be a recurrence of the hip injury that saw him miss 11 league games at the back end of 2019.

However, Hammers Head of Medical Richard Collinge said: “It is good news in the sense that Lukasz hasn’t aggravated or suffered any recurrence of the previous injury.

“The scan has showed some slight inflammation and irritation of scar tissue, which is quite common after surgery, and obviously the source of the discomfort he felt on Friday.

“We now just need to let the inflammation settle down and expect Lukasz to be available again within a couple of weeks.”
