David Moyes 'sickened' as West Ham drop valuable points in relegation fight

David Moyes was "sickened" by Jonjo Shelvey's goal that saw West Ham lose the lead just 92 seconds after reclaiming it at Newcastle.

Moments before Shelvey fired past Lukasz Fabianski to level the game back at two a piece, Tomas Soucek had notched his second in as many games - moving the Hammers six points clear of the drop in doing so.

It was the second time West Ham, who have dropped 24 points from winning positions now this season, had given up their lead at St. James's Park, with Miguel Almiron cancelling out Michail Antonio's early opener in the first half.

Following the draw - Moyes's first point picked up outside of east London since he returned - they move four points clear of the bottom three. The Scot could not criticise the performance, but said that one lapse was tough to take.

"I was sickened because of us working so hard to get a goal back and then giving it up so quickly," he said. "I thought Newcastle had played quite well in the first half, made it quite difficult for us, but I felt that by second half we had grown into it.

"By the end of the game we were probably the team who had created the most chances. I'm not disappointed with that but I am just disappointed to give that second goal up because it is a real difficult one.

"Some teams would have gone under then but credit to the lads for showing real resilience not to go under and give up a third goal.

"I couldn't speak highly enough of the players and their attitude, I really couldn't. What they are giving, what they are trying to do. They are giving their maximum."
