A petition has been launched to prevent Phil Collins from making his musical comeback.

The former Genesis drummer, 64, last week announced his plans for a comeback tour and a new solo LP following a lengthy hiatus since releasing his last album, Testify, in 2002.

But one man was so enraged by the news that he launched a change.org petition to stop Collins from coming out of retirement.

Titled ‘Phil Collins must be stopped’, the description states that Collins' return to music will cause more suffering in the world.

“Phil Collins has announced that he is ‘no longer in retirement’," it reads. "There is far too much suffering in the world as it is. This must be stopped."

The petition has so far amassed more than 600 signatures with one supporter commenting: “I'm doing this for my children's sake. We should do anything to prevent this.”

Another posted simply: “He is a complete a***.”

Collins announced his comeback during an interview with Rolling Stone where he revealed that he is moving a studio into his Miami home to begin recording new music in a month.

"I'm no longer officially retired," he told the publication. "The horse is out of the stable and I'm raring to go.

"My kids are now 10 and 14 and they want to see what their dad does.

"They were in nappies when I was last on the road. They love my music and I'd like to take them out so they can enjoy it."
