Host your own bake off: Mary Berry's Devonshire retreat is on the market for £800,000

The opportunity to cook with TV baking queen Mary Berry would be a dream come true for fans of her perfect cakes and her firm-but-fair approach to contestants on The Great British Bake Off. So cooking in her designer kitchen would surely be the next best thing...

And now you can. Berry's four-bedroom family holiday home in the popular holiday resort of Salcombe, Devon, has just been put on the market.

Named The Old Manse, the picturesque coastal home is now owned by Mary Berry’s children, Annabel and Tom, and is up for sale for £800,000.

The detached period property was built in the early 1900s and, as you would expect from its meticulous former owner, it offers a neat interior that has retained much of its original character.

An open-plan kitchen is the heart of the home and is kitted out with a traditional two-oven Aga as well as a double electric oven, so you can get straight on to whipping up a batch of Berry's famous chocolate brownies, while the lamb slow-cooks.

There are outdoor spaces at the front and back of the house, which are perfect for entertaining, as well as a garage for two cars and parking for two more - or space for a boat.

Berry told the Western Morning News: "It’s a lovely family house...We’ve had wonderful times with all the young [family] spending time together."

But they are now selling the property with the aim of buying a home more convenient for sailing.

“The children want moorings – we’re waiting to see what we can find,” Berry says. "I’ve been coming to Salcombe all my married life. I go there whenever I get the chance. There is so much I love about it – when the sun is shining you could be in the south of France – some place like Nice or Cannes, but without the crowds."

Salcombe is a four-and-a-half-hour drive from London.
