What impact will the new Labour London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, have on the capital’s fortunes — and how will the City react to the result of next month’s EU referendum?

Political uncertainty at home and economic troubles worldwide are keeping foreign buyers away from British property for now, and for the first time in years, high-end developers are on the back foot in London.

So many £1 milllion-plus homes are unsold in fancy regeneration zones that the shots are being called not by foreign billionaires, but by well-off Britons. If you are one of the lucky people, here’s where to look…

Soho’s new film star

London’s most cosmopolitan and colourful quarter hides much of its fine architecture. Soho is famous for exotic street life — but look up, above the shops and bars.

The Pathé Building in Wardour Street is the former HQ of the newsreel and film organisation which set up base there in 1902 and drove the film and media industry that’s still synonymous with the district.

This high-quality conversion retains the best of the old architecture within modern interiors. The striking Edwardian façade has a magnificent glazed arched centrepiece, behind which are 15 loft-style flats and a pair of duplex penthouses with roof terraces.

Interior design echoes the building’s former use with oak, steel and leather finishes, while the sculptural bronze entrance portico has a surface punctured with tiny dots, creating an interplay of light and shade that mimics the flickering light from an early film projector. There’s a basement gym, too.
