Real Madrid left-back Marcelo is set to miss the rest of Los Blancos' LaLiga campaign with an adductor injury.

The Brazilian won the penalty which gave Zinedine Zidane's side all three points in the 1-0 victory at Athletic Club on Sunday, but also picked up an injury that will rule him out for the remainder of the domestic season.

"Following the tests carried out today on Marcelo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to his left adductor muscle," Real Madrid confirmed before Friday's clash with Alaves.

"His recovery will continue to be assessed."

Marcelo is not expected to be back in LaLiga action this term, with Real hosting Alaves on Friday before playing three more matches over the next eight days.

However, he should be available again for the Champions League in early August, when Zidane's side travel to Manchester City for the teams' last-16 second-leg match and look to seal a spot in the last eight against either Lyon or Juventus.
