It seems singer Cher also has a talent for property development. After snapping up four acres in Benedict Canyon Drive in Beverly Hills in the Seventies, the superstar helped build and design an estate that still stands strong. She later sold it to actor Eddie Murphy.

The current owners purchased it in 1994 and began buying up the surrounding land to transform it into the 16-acre equestrian estate it is today.

Hidden from public view by mature landscaping, the 20,000sq ft main residence has 11 bedrooms, stone flooring, wood-burning fireplaces and beamed ceilings.

Outside there is a pool, spa and kitchen on beautiful stone terraces. A detached 7,000sq ft five-bedroom guesthouse has Moroccan tiling, coffered ceilings, walk-through arches and hand-carved wooden doors.

Listed with the John Aaroe Group in California, the asking price is £64.4 million.
