Grace Kelly’s favourite Cannes castle hits the market for £37.5m

The US actress fell in love with Castle of la Croix des Gardes on the French Riviera while filming her last movie with Alfred Hitchcock before she married into the Monaco royal family.

Is this the most beautiful house in the world? Grace Kelly certainly thought so.

The late actress fell in love with Castle of la Croix des Gardes on the French Riviera, while filming the 1955 movie To Catch A Thief with co-star Cary Grant. It was the last film Kelly made with director Alfred Hitchcock before she married Prince Rainier III of Monaco.

The house, in the famed Quartier des Anglais, 700ft above the Med, has Florentine-style façades and gardens overlooking the Bay of Cannes.

There are 13 bedrooms, 24 manicured acres, guest houses, staff quarters, an orangery, infinity pool, winter garden and a Turkish lodge.

The house is on the market for the first time since it was bought by the owner of Perrier water in 1960. On sale through Sotheby’s, the asking price is about £37.5 million.
