Queen of the US chat shows Ellen DeGeneres is selling her Californian villa, built by noted American architect Wallace Frost for his family in the Thirties.

Decades later, architectural and interior designer John Saladino fell in love with its “mix of grandeur and modesty” and planned a meticulous five-year restoration.

DeGeneres, who recently released her own tableware line with Royal Doulton, snapped up the villa in 2013 with her Australian actress wife Portia de Rossi and expanded the estate, buying two adjacent properties to make a total of almost 17 acres in the hills of Santa Barbara.

The couple spared no expense in modernising the space for a relaxed lifestyle.

The 10,500sq ft house includes six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, nine fireplaces, multiple libraries and a marble-wrapped chef’s kitchen.

There’s an indoor-outdoor pavilion for entertaining, a lap pool, championship tennis court and state-of-the-art security systems.

It is on Sotheby’s International Realty’s books for £35.9 million. Take a tour of the home in our gallery above...
