Have the Queen’s 90th birthday and upcoming St George’s Day celebrations whipped you into an frenzy of patriotism?

You could toast it all by sitting at home, sipping tea (milk first, of course) out of a bone china cup and saucer and gorging yourself on jam and cream scones, while watching endless reruns of Downton Abbey.

Or, you could go a step further and organise a trip to see one of the most quintessentially English places that our beautiful country has to offer.

England has everything from seaside towns that are more than a match for any exotic beach holiday, quaint towns that date back to medieval times and grand historic castles with perfectly groomed gardens.

There’s also plenty in the way of food, drink and culture to keep you entertained while you are there.

Clcik through the gallery above for our edit of the nine places it is your patriotic duty to visit, from the home of William Shakespeare, Stratford-Upon-Avon to the preserved Roman bathhouses and Georgian architecture of Bath.
