Once the stuff of spy novels, a GPS tracker is now cheap and easy to own and use. A good example is the Streetwize SWTRACK1 which is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Priced at around £50, it is affordable too.
All you need is a PAYG SIM card and with no other ongoing costs you have a great little gadget which you can fix to your car, motorbike, or boat. Almost anything in fact.
The SWTRACK1 either runs on its own rechargeable battery or you can use the connector to run it from a vehicle’s battery. Either way, once it’s up and running you can use the free app on your phone or laptop to see where in the world your treasured possession is and watch it move in real time.
Users can also send a text message from their smart phone or tablet to the tracker, triggering it to send back a map of the its location, accurate to 10 meters. Another feature lets you set up a number of ‘geofences’ so that if the tracker leaves a pre-defined area it will SMS your phone to let you know.
The good bits: It’s compact, well-made with a robust look and feel. The no so good bits: Despite the quality unit and slick packaging the instruction booklet is a let-down, but you can download one from the Streetwize website streetwizeaccessories.com/
