Every April tens of thousands of fitness fanatics descend on the capital’s streets to tackle the 26 mile race, with thousands more watching from the side-lines and at home.

But the annual event is arguably equally famous for its unusual world record attempts and wacky fancy dress costumes – all in the name of the charity.

This year’s hopefuls have been raising thousands of pounds for good causes including the St Catherine’s Hospice, Cancer Research UK and the miscarriage association.

For 2016’s marathon there will be 58 Guinness World Record attempts in total, so let’s hope it can top last year’s tally of 38. We’ve rounded up nine of the craziest entries lined up for this year’s race, from 3D dinosaurs to giant lobsters.
