Mezzo-Soprano Katherine Jenkins has revealed she would be up for combining classical and grime on a collaboration with Stormzy.

Jenkins, 38, covers the Brit Award winner’s track Blinded By Your Grace on album Guiding Light, released today, which also features a line from her three-year-old daughter Aaliyah.

“People are really shocked it’s Stormzy”, she told A list.

“I’d be interested to know what he thinks because it is a new interpretation of his song. The best things come out of weird collaborations and things that are unexpected. Whenever I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone that’s always been some of the best stuff I’ve done.

“If he was up for it, I would be up for it for sure. I’m definitely not going to be doing a grime album any time soon — but a track.”

Guiding Light marks Jenkins’ first featuring original songs since Home Sweet Home in 2014. She said she felt ready to bring out a record as she feels “settled” in the wake of her marriage to US artist Andrew Levitas and the birth of Aaliyah and seven-month-old son Xander.

Jenkins said recording the album was emotional, in particular Xander’s Song which she wrote for her son after he was born. She said: “I wrote that at home and it wasn’t meant to be on the album. I feel like I’ve become a warrior since I’ve had them and also that I pray for them all the time. I sat there and wrote him a lullaby prayer for his life.

“It was so hard to record it. Every time I started singing my voice would crack and I was crying. It took me so many attempts. I think I had to come back the next day and try again.”

Jenkins said her son is “musical already” but added: “I’m not trying to get them [her children] to be singers. I don’t care if they are or they aren’t.”
