They are the random, sometimes hilarious remarks that brighten up a dreary journey to work.


Whether it is the usual delays or something more out of the ordinary, London Tube drivers are famous for improvising when it comes to making comments to passengers over the public address system.

Now some of the more memorable remarks, ranging from sardonic humour to furious exasperation, have been preserved by fans of the impromptu announcements.

The comments have been compiled on website www.going-underground.net. Some verge on the surreal, such as the driver explaining that a delay is caused by people on the roof of the train in front.

Others offer a blunt and often highly negative verdict on the Underground service - perhaps even more vitriolic than that of disgruntled passengers.

One driver, after making several requests to allow passengers off the train first at a crowded Camden station, suddenly said: "Go on then, stuff yourselves in like sardines. See if I care, I'm going home."
