Baby boom hits the catwalk

Can you be a mother and a sex kitten at the same time? Of course you can - provided you wear Frost French. That was the message spelt out by the label set up by best friends, actress Sadie Frost and Jemima French two years ago, at their show at Regent's Park open air theatre last night. For who better placed to give tips on being a sexy mother than Sadie Frost? Although she gave birth to her fourth child, Rudy, less than a week ago, Sadie looked fresh-faced and fit for anything as she took her bows on the catwalk.

Frost clearly didn't feel the need to spend weeks eating lettuce on a treadmill before unveiling her post-pregnancy figure to the world, and was happy to appear in public with a rounded tummy. Then again, when Jude Law is your husband, you really don't have anything else to prove.

The French Frost show was put on the official London Fashion Week schedule at the last minute when it became apparent that no designer wanted their show to clash with it, due to Frost's celebrity pulling power.

Although Kate Moss failed to appear - too pregnant to move, let alone model - Jade Jagger, Donna Air, Sara Cox, Jamie Oliver and actor Rhys Ifans were all present.

Before branching into clothing, Frost French started off making knickers - so of course there were plenty on display. No matter if the model was wearing a mini skirt: she still flipped it up to reveal saucy tie-sided pants underneath.

Belted trenchcoats became flasher macs as they were unfastened to reveal more frilly lingerie. Thank heavens it was a mild September night.

The clothes were hardly groundbreaking but nor do they need to be.

Frost French cater to a very specific niche market: their own trendy friends who live in and around the oh-so-fashionable enclave of Primrose Hill.

In this part of north London, zipup hooded tops and matching shorts are a Sunday afternoon staple while pastel pink chiffon tea dresses are just the thing for dinner round at Sadie's. Here was a capsule wardrobe for women who are forever girls at heart.

And of course babies were not forgotten in the show for in NW1 it is never too early to be fashionable. A series of brightly coloured French Frost baby slings will ensure that Rudy and baby Moss and everyone else's newborn will always co-ordinate with the outfit.
