Ali G back in da house

Ali G is to make a return to television screens this spring after finding box office success with his first movie, it was announced today.

And Sacha Baron Cohen, the comic behind the spoof rapper, is adding another character to his stable for the series..

He will play a camp fashion correspondent called Bruno when he pops back for six new editions of Da Ali G Show

Together with Kazakh reporter Borat, his characters will be seen meeting celebrities and everyday people he encounters in the US.

The series is a co-production with the American HBO channel which is behind shows such as Sex And The City.

Baron Cohen shies away from speaking out of character in public but has become a huge star since finding success with the often controversial Ali G.

The leader of the Staines Massive found fame on Channel 4's The 11 O'clock Show, before launching his own spin-off series.

His interviews with public figures became hugely popular and he landed two TV Bafta awards.

The move into film with Ali G In Da House broadened his international appeal and he topped the box office charts in the Netherlands, Australia and South Africa.

There had been fears he could struggle to bring Ali G back to TV because few people would be taken in by his act.

Danielle Lux, Channel 4's Head of Entertainment & Comedy said today: "HBO and C4 are channels with a reputation for bringing the best talent to the screens and we have done exactly that with Sacha's new show.
"The combination of Ali G, Borat and Bruno storming the USA is delightful."
