Right then, play is just moments away. England are taking to the field, while Delany and Stirling - who are opening for Ireland - are making their way out tho the middle.

We have ourselves a glorious day at the Ageas Bowl. Blue skies delight! Looks like excellent batting conditions!

Stokes, Archer, Butler... where are they?

Who could forget the last time we saw England in ODI action? Cricket perhaps at the forefront of a glorious 2019 summer, with Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer's World Cup heroics helping England on their way to victory at Lords.

But what is immediately noticeable is the change in personnel. Captain Eoin Morgan will be without Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Joe Root and Jos Buttler, all of whom played in England's Test series against the West Indies.

With a number of Tests crammed into a packed schedule, alongside the prevalent precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19, England's Test and One Day internationals have been kept separate, with those who played against the West Indies unavailable.

This is no standard 'B' team, however, with the likes of Tom Curran, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow and James Vince all looking to impress.

Big selection statement from Ireland too, as former captain William Porterfield is left out. Harry Tector and Curtis Campher make their ODI debut.

England captain Eoin Morgan on Sky Sports

"The pitch looks. The hospitality here has been very good, full credit to them. I'd like to thank Ireland for coming over.

"The preparation has been excellent, the facilities on the Nursery Ground and here on the main ground are brilliant. Hopefully, it all blends in.

"Joe Denly went down in training yesterday so Sam Billings comes in. It presents an opportunity throughout the rest of this summer, there won't be a huge amount of chopping and changing."

World Cup Super League: The opener

Right, so before we get onto team selections, weather and all that jazz, let's quickly go over the inaugural World Cup Super League and exactly what that is.

So, England and Ireland are taking place in the longest bilateral series the two sides have ever played, but where England often rest a number of their top players for this fixture, this one actually has some real meaning.

It comes as the two sides' first fixture in the World Cup Super League, which is the first pathway to qualify for the 2023 World Cup - which, of course, England will come in as holders.

India, as hosts, already have their place guaranteed. But there will also be 12 teams involved in this League, of which each will play eight matches, four home and four away.

Winners will get 10 points, while five will be given to both for a tie. The top seven from the 12 will gain automatic qualification to the World Cup, while the bottom five will then go into a qualification tournament with a number of associate teams.
