The world’s greatest flower show runs this year from Tuesday May 24 to Saturday May 28 and as always, there will be daily TV coverage but nothing beats the sights, sounds and scents of the show gardens and plant-packed Great Pavilion, so snap up any of the remaining tickets on rhs.org. uk.

Show garden highlights will include Diarmuid Gavin’s The British Eccentrics Garden, sponsored by Harrods, which will show bizarre garden gadgetry that springs to life every 15 minutes; Peter Eustance of Symphonic Gardens’ acoustic garden that will play musical notes; a garden inside a giant 2.5m granite curve as well as another delicious provencal garden from James Basson for L’Occitane.

Sarah Eberle’s show garden for Viking Cruises, largely made of water with floating lounger, is based on the floating gardens of the silk-weavers of Cambodia’s Mekong River and just beyond the showground, but visible from it, will be 300,000 hand-crocheted poppies covering 2,000 sq metres of the grounds of Royal Hospital Chelsea, in the spirit of the Tower of London poppy display.

Another star attraction, in the Great Pavilion at the central momument site, promises to be Bowdens Nursery’s exhibit of an 80ft-long carriage within a 6,000 sq ft planted-up train station; hostas on Platform 1, rare jungle ferns on Platform 2.
