Manchester United winger Tahith Chong has joined Werder Bremen on loan.

Rumours over an impending Old Trafford exit for the former Feyenoord youngster have been circulating for several weeks, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to build Chong's experience with a loan move after signing a new contract.

Bundesliga club Werder quickly emerged as Chong's most likely destination, and the 20-year-old will head to the Weserstadion on a season-long loan deal.

The player was in Austria and was given permission to commence pre-season training with his future team-mates at their Zillertal base on Sunday.

"Although the final terms of his move are yet to be agreed, Tahith Chong has been given permission to train with the club and will therefore join this morning's session," Werder Bremen said on Twitter, before posting further pictures of Chong in action.

The club also retweeted several good luck messages to Chong from United fans.

The Dutch Under-21 international could have left Old Trafford on a permanent basis earlier this year with his contract due to expire and strong interest from the likes of Inter Milan, though he ended up putting pen to paper on an extension lasting until the summer of 2022.

Chong has made 16 senior appearances in total for United, including five in the Premier League.

He will now hope to impress and boost the fortunes of a Werder side that finished 16th in the Bundesliga last term under Florian Kohfeldt, only narrowly avoiding relegation after beating Heidenheim on away goals in the two-legged promotion/relegation play-off.
