Now in its eighth season Great British Bake Off fever has taken over the UK, its controversial defection to Channel 4 proving not to have dimmed its warm cosy glow after all.

Social media is once again full of fans showing off their creations, without a dreaded soggy bottom in sight.

It turns out that's not the only way keen bakers are using tech to enhance their patisserie skills.

New research from eBay reveals that a cookware item is purchase via a mobile phone every five seconds in the UK.

The online marketplace site, which celebrates its 18th birthday this year, revealed Brits love to cook up a storm in the kitchen.

Aprons were the most popular baking item bought, followed by baking trays and tea towels as amateur bakers attempted to channel their inner Mary Ber... ahem, Prue Leith.

Cake tins, chopping boards, and spice racks were also included in the top 10 buys.
