West Ham will begin the new Premier League campaign at home to Newcastle next month after the fixtures for the 2020-21 season were confirmed on Thursday.

Steve Bruce's Magpies visit London Stadium on opening day on September 12, with the Hammers then facing a trip to London rivals Arsenal seven days later.

An early clash with Spurs also looms at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 17, marking the start of a tricky run that also includes Manchester City (H) and a daunting journey to face champions Liverpool at Anfield.

West Ham will be desperate for a marked improvement after another year spent battling against relegation to the Championship.

David Moyes eventually steered the club to safety with a game to spare in 2019-20 thanks in no small part to the goals of Michail Antonio, though another dogfight at the bottom will surely not be tolerated during the first full season of his second spell at the helm.

The Scot does not have too much time to work with his players this summer, however, with the previous coronavirus shutdown meaning there will be just a seven-week break between seasons, while the rescheduled European Championship leaves little room to manoeuvre on the fixture front.

West Ham will hope to have made significant progress in terms of transfers by the time that first match against Newcastle comes around, though they have already secured one important deal by converting influential midfielder Tomas Soucek's loan spell from Slavia Prague into a permanent arrangement.
