Living Coral: how the Pantone colour of the year 2019 will brighten up your home

Each year Pantone, the colour-matching company, reveals the colour it thinks we'll be seeing everywhere for the year ahead.
For 2019 they've picked Living Coral — a bold hue somewhere between pink and orange.
This darker, orange-toned is an update of the millennial pink that's been taking interiors by storm.
But, coral's legacy in decoration stretches back at least as far as Ancient Greece.
It was popular in fashion and decor in the late Victorian era and saw a resurgence in the Fifties — think sunny Beverly Hills bungalows — when it was often contrasted with teal.
It's even one of six colour options for the new iPhone XR.
Described as “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone”, Living Coral appeals to our playful side and our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, says the brand.
Both energising and enlivening, this is the perfect hue to take us into 2019 with a bang and continues the trend for strong statement colours after Ultra Violet was chosen as the colour of 2018.

1. Furniture
Living Coral provides an injection of vivid colour, but if a more subtle look is what you're after, choose coral-coloured accessories to brighten up tired and dreary new year homes.

2. Paints and wallpapers
Marianne Shillingford, creative director of Dulux, suggest using coral tones, such as the brand's Coral Flair paint, to introduce colour into dull living spaces.
"Clean coral pink shades are perfect for painted features and details anywhere in the home, especially in modern living spaces where energy levels need lifting."
"If you want to catch the wave and use these coral shades yourself try Dulux Coral Flair or slightly lighter Summer Fizz," she adds.
3. Accessorise
If you're not keen on painting Living Coral onto your walls, there are plenty of subtle ways to add the colour to your home, such as this Khan cotton cushion cover, £57.99, from Wayfair.
