Design trends: the luggage look

The desire to evoke the golden age of travel — when the journey was said to be better than the arrival — seems to be spreading as contemporary furniture designers turn to vintage luggage for homeware inspiration
Designer Marc Jacobs sent his models down the Paris Fashion Week catwalk clutching a new, suitcase-style Louis Vuitton bag called La Valise, and produced uniformed porters to walk behind carrying fur-trimmed leather and ostrich cases. This desire to evoke the golden age of travel — when the journey was said to be better than the arrival — seems to be spreading as contemporary furniture designers turn to vintage luggage for homeware inspiration.
