Design trends: cats with attitude

The musical Cats returns to the West End at Christmas, but feline fashion and furnishings are already a big autumn hit.
What’s new? Well, pussycats — stalking across wallpaper, mewing from mugs and making those unblinking cat’s eyes from cushions.

Cats get new cultural cred at the  up-market Carpenters Workshop Gallery, where a show of a limited edition of large, expensive and very wild cats closes on Friday. A series of maverick moggies in black bronze with glowing electric eyes are snarling on pedestals.

They are by Dutch designers Studio Job, where artist Job Smeets believes that cats are ruthless and “autistic” but closely related to humans… His artworks cost more than £20,000 but you can have a quirky sheet of wrapping paper for under £2 or a cushion for £35. Purrfect.
