Bloomsbury evening Christmas shopping


The French House makes its debut retail appearance at 50 Lambs Conduit Street, W1, one of many shops participating in late-night shopping on December 9, from 4pm to 8pm. Find The French House’s houndstooth throws, or just enjoy the music and wine on offer to coax shoppers to this still relatively unknown shopping area of Bloomsbury.

Clerkenwell after hours


From November 25 to 28, the Craft Central studios will be open with 90 designers/makers selling Christmas-themed presents. Designers include Michelle Mason; Esther Coombes and Susan Bradley. Brownies and Swedish cider are on offer tomorrow from 5pm to 8pm. Visit craftcentral.org.uk.

Felt animals, linen towels, delicate soaps, bunting and gorgeous Starch Green end papers for wrapping presents will be for sale at Selvedge’s Christmas Fair on December 4, from 11am to 5pm. There will also be workshops where you can make toy pin cushions, wool hearts or mini clasp purses. Pre-booking is essential.

Brompton Cross: late-night line up


Skitsch, Divertimenti, Skandium, Mint, Conran and Few & Far are among the many Brompton Cross shops keeping their doors wide open on December 4, for late-night shopping, some also offering 10 per cent discounts. On November 25, from 6.30pm to 10pm, Skitsch will also be holding a special children’s charity shopping event with Italian food and prosecco on offer. Visit bromptonquarter.com.

Columbia Road: Wednesdays until 9pm


Local shops Milagros, Wawa, Supernice, Warren Evans and up to 40 others will stay open late in Columbia Road every Wednesday in December before Christmas from 5pm to 9pm. The popular revival of this street and its surrounding roads mean that it has managed to fend off the big stores and there are lots of quirky surprises to be found there. Visit columbiaroad.info.

The Hackney designer with more than a touch of Bloomsbury about her, is holding a three-day Open Studio Christmas event from November 25, selling Ibis-design cushions, pretty peacock greetings cards (£6.50 for five) and much more. Belgravia: all day Sunday


All the shops along Elizabeth Street and Pimlico Road, including Linley, Nicky Haslam, Mungo & Maud and Daylesford, will be having a Christmas ball on December 5, from 11am to 4pm. There will be festive stalls selling hand-made crafts, with balloon-modellers, choirs, brass bands and fairies on stilts for the children, food and drink, and free rickshaw rides around the shops.
