Shop of the week

Molteni
The Molteni family has run its furniture business in Italy since the Thirties, passing the reins from father to son. Now, it has opened a flagship store in London for its top-of-the-range furniture.

Sofas and chairs come in butter-soft suedes and modern textiles, and kitchens are streamlined in wood and marble; designers include Patricia Urquiola, Jean Nouvel, Norman Foster, Arik Levy, Ferruccio Laviani and Vivienne Westwood.

Prices start at about £5,000 for a sofa. Molteni, 199 Shaftesbury Avenue, WC2 (020 7631 2345; www.molteni.it).

Michelle Scrag

From paint to print

Michelle Scragg
Michelle Scragg, former textile designer and colourist for Osborne & Little, has set up a new service.

You can commission a painting from her that she will digitally transfer onto upholstery fabric, then upholster a customer’s chair or a sofa, or a piece she has sourced herself.

Michelle will visit to discuss what furniture to use and advice on colour, pattern and design. Not cheap but unique - she charges from about £1,000 for a stool and small abstract painting. To see her work visit www.michellescragg.co.uk.
