Colourful classics are back – with a modern twist
It’s good to see colour back in the sitting room, with both new designs and reissued classics given a modern twist from leading French designers Ligne Roset.
The Archi armchair is one of several by Pierre Paulin - his original came out in 1955 and remains simplicity itself: a metal frame and upholstered body with removable covers. It is available in 29 different fabrics, including hide, and costs about £1,813 (right; in citrus Divinia Melange) depending on which fabric you choose.
Pascal Morgue has designed a range of sofas and chairs called Cityloft which comes in citrus bright colours, while Tadao Hoshino puts a new spin on the original storage drawers with Aphrodite, a set of either five or eight drawers which are cantilevered and look as if they are about to topple over.
There are several Ligne Roset stores in London; for your nearest visit www.ligne-roset.co.uk.
Get lit up with bright ideas
This company has finally discovered colour and has introduced lots of it into its summer ranges this year.
The Area 51 chair, made from waterproof polypropylene, comes in fuchsia pink or white, and in lime green and orange (right, £77.50 each); the green wire cage planter is both modern and retro, while Clarissa Hulse has designed a waterproof fabric parasol (£225) and matching floor/seat cushions (from £35).
Inspired by the humble glowworm, the Glow furniture range includes a table that lights up from within (plug and cable needed) for £2,195 and matching chairs (£250 each) which do not light up but come in glowing colours.
Melamine picnicware and square glass candles (£15 each) complete the look. Visit www.heals.co.uk for stockists or to buy online, or call 0870 024 0780.
