This week is National Gardening Week, and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Europe’s largest community gardening campaign, RHS Britain in Bloom, the theme is Growing for Gold.
Join the thousands of volunteers across London who will be helping to create fields of gold throughout the capital for summer by sowing sunflower seeds this week and over Easter on waste ground, in tree pits or in any public spaces. You can also join a local school or community gardening group’s sowing event by checking the website at nationalgardeningweek.org.uk.
The Royal Horticultural Society is offering 750 Homes & Property readers the chance to make a difference by sowing a mini field of sunflowers. Sign up at surveymonkey.com/s/LondonEveningStandard for a free RHS Growing for Gold seed pack, containing four different varieties, including the spectacular Giant Single and 12ft Moonwalker that will not only brighten the city streets but pull in pollinators too, so providing a great food source for bees and butterflies.
