Attention Scotch egg fiends: tonight's your night! Get down to The Ship in Wandsworth for the mighty Scotch Egg Challenge 2012.

This is the competition's second year and it's upped its game with posh foodies - and self-proclaimed Scotch egg inventors - Fortnum & Mason jumping aboard, so we're expecting a hard-fought fight with 24 impressive competitors out to cook Britain's best Scotch egg.

The challenge boasts a formidable judging panel of hard-boiled egg-sperts includes Fortnum & Mason consultant chef Shaun Hill, celeb chef Gizzi Erskine, host of Channel 4's 'Barking Mad' Eric Lanlard and Tom Parker-Bowles.

The finalists - just announced - come from far and wide, but include some of the most accomplished Scotch egg-sters in London, from Cinnamon in Soho and the Cock Tavern in Fulham to Opera Tavern, Covent Garden, Duck & Waffle in Bishopsgate and The Wandsworth Ship itself.

There will be a big screen in The Ship showing all competition kitchen action to punters and Fortnum & Mason wll give a demo on how to make their original 1738-style Scotch egg.

Do not fear, competitors will cook enough eggs for the audience to feed their faces for free, with a selection of tasty chutney's to try alongside, courtesy of F&M's deli.

Comp kicks off from 7pm, no tickets, no entry fee and no need to book - it will be like nothing you've ever egg-sperienced.
