They're to fry for: the best chips in London

'Heavenly': the chips at Le Comptoir Gascon in Charlotte Street were named the best in the capital

London's best chips are named today.

A survey of the capital's restaurants has found that the chefs at Le Comptoir Gascon in Farringdon fry the finest frites.

Tasters who visited the French bistro in Charterhouse Street described sampling its golden cuts of potato as a "heavenly encounter".

The chips are made using French potatoes that are hand-cut to 1cm square and 8cm to 10cm

long. They are cooked in duck fat and seasoned with fleur de sel - hand-harvested salt crystals from the Gironde. A bowl of the award-winning chips at Le Comptoir Gascon costs £3.50.
