Prosecco isn't actually Italy's best sparkling wine

Most wine drinkers assume 'If it is Italian and bubbly, then it must be Prosecco'. As the number one sparkling wine of Italy in production and export numbers, perhaps we can be forgiven for thinking it is the only sparkling wine the Italians have to offer.
More intrepid types or anyone who has reached 'Peak Prosecco' - it now comes in a lurid blue and laced with edible rose gold glitter - should look to Trentodoc.
Forbes’ wine writer Nick Passmore believes we should ditch the prosecco - which he calls ‘boring’ and ‘one-dimensional’ - in favour of this alternative Italian sparkler.
What is Trentodoc?
Trentodoc is one of the most natural sparkling wines you can drink. Found in the Italian alps, it is produced using the Méthode Champenoise, meaning it undergoes a second fermentation in its bottle. The grapes, including Pinot Nero (Noir) and Chardonnay must be grown in certain traditional manners, the wines must be aged for a minimum of 15 months and the alcohol must maintain a level more associated with wines - a minimum of 11.5 per cent.
Passmore says the area’s ‘high peaks and steep valleys’ create wines ‘packed with vivacious personality’ and according to him, sales are going up.
Where can I buy it?
The only issue with trying to be one of the first to try the Trentodoc sparkling wines, is that you'll have your work cut out trying to get hold of it.
Trentodoc isn't likely to be readily available in your local supermarket just yet. Although M&S is selling a case for £120 or £20 for a bottle here.
