Queen's Yard Summer Party 2019: Everything you need to know

Summer sounds: Queen's Yard Summer Party
Annabel Simpson3 May 2019

This weekend, Hackney Wick welcomes Queen's Yard Summer Party, a two-day festival spread across more than 20 venues with upwards of 100 DJs and live acts.

It's a cross-section of the country's dance scene, with experts from across the worlds of house, techno, disco, drum n'bass, indie, folk and beyond.

There's a diverse range of venues across the festival to keep you on your toes. Included among them are Giant Steps, the carnival-style travelling sound system from Dalston's Brilliant Corners, the atmospheric Mick's Garage, and the riverside Number 90 bar. The weekend has impressive range of partners, too, including Gottwood, the esteemed Welsh festival and Croatian favourite Love International, as well as some top music promoters including Make Me and Percolate.

On Saturday night, check out Gideön. He founded Block 9 at Glastonbury and is a driving force of the LGBTQ club scene. He plays at 3.30am.

Earlier in the day, don't miss Jive Talk at 4pm in Gottwood's area, Studio 9. This duo are a lot of fun and great for high-energy daytime dancing.

On Sunday, Felix Dickinson will play at Love International's area, the Schwartz Wharf Courtyard, at 9.30pm. At 1am on the same night, the excellent Boileroom regular Auntie Flo will play at Bloc.

Female DJ presence is strong, too. On Saturday, Lucid Stannard plays at Number 90 at 3pm. She'll take you around the world with an eclectic mix of Turkish disco, Indian sitar music, African funk, modern electronic and more.

On Sunday, head to the Origins x Percolate area at 2pm to see Iona, while making sure to catch Kiara Scuro at 9pm at the White Post Cafe. Both will have you grooving into the later hours.

Punters will be completely spoilt for choice when it comes to food and drink. Barge East will be serving meaty goodness, while Miloko is coming through with the vegan cocktails. If you're a fan of craft ale, head to Crate Brewery, Howling Hops or the Beer Merchants Tap, all of which will be serving booze and grub, with a range of DJs supplying the soundtrack.

As if this all wasn't enough, the whole festival will be fundraising for MAP, which supports disadvantaged children who are out of mainstream education, as well as mental health charity MIND.
