Walking in a vintage wonderland

Carter's Steam Fair
Battersea Park, Albert Bridge Road, SW11. www.carterssteamfair.co.uk

Filled with vintage fairground rides from dodgems to steam yachts, the late John Carter's wonderland is in Battersea Park until 19 August.

Carter's is like something out of a fairytale - the rides are even transported in vintage Ford AA trucks, with not a white van in sight.

Jonathan Ross once described it as "more like a film set than a travelling fair", and it's true - it feels like walking into a scene from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Open noon-6pm, prices from £1.
