Secret Cinema unveiled its latest offering last night as the immersive events company branched out into nightclub territory.

The club night is being run as a side project to this summer’s screening of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and is, in true Secret Cinema fashion, being held in a secret location.

The Standard was given a first peek inside the ‘Secret Cantina’, named in reference to the fictional bar in Star Wars, before it opens to those with tickets for the cinema screening.

Clubbers have to initially find the venue by calling a mobile phone and using a secret code and are then required to take a number of props.

Inside, the club is fronted by a team of actors and more than 100 live bands have been booked to play as well as performances from secret DJs.

Without wanting to ruin the surprise, what initially appears to be a simple room with a bar expands as characters appear in the crowd and draw visitors into the story, taking them into hidden rooms and passing on messages and tasks.

Secret Cinema founder Fabien Riggall told the Standard: “Just because you are going to a club doesn’t mean you can’t go on an adventure. Secret Cinema is about taking a film and living the story using mystery and secrets.

“There are 150,000 tickets being sold for Star Wars which makes this the biggest members’ club in London. Anyone with a ticket can come to the club whenever they like. People are buying a ticket to a world and a story. By the time they come to the screening they will believe they are part of the show.”

The Secret Nightclub runs over the next six months every Thursday to Sunday while Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back begins on June 4 and runs until the end of September.
