Outdoor family activities for Londoners

Ben and Jerry's Sundae on the Common Festival
Alexandra Bott5 April 2012

Looking for great outdoor activities in London that won't break the bank? Here are some events that should appeal to families...

Making a Splash!
If we get the 38 degree heat that has been predicted this summer then two 12 metre swimming pools created by the British Gas Big Dip organisation will seem very welcoming. Originally an idea of swimming medalist Stephen Parry the Clapham Common pools, featuring their very own sandy beaches, promise fun for all ages. There are aqua zumba classes on offer as well as mini polo and swimming lessons.
Admission £3 (up to two under twelves go free)
Until July 17

Jeppe Hein: Appearing Rooms
Danish artist Hein's Appearing Rooms at the Southbank Centre offer an amusing entertainment alternative. It involves jets of water shooting into the air creating 'rooms' that disappear as quickly as they emerge. The game is to try your luck at predicting their next move.
Admission free
Until September 18

Sundae Fun
For an extra special end of term treat why not take the kids along to the Ben and Jerry's Sundae on the Common Festival on Clapham Common. Maximo Park and Ocean Colour Scene are headlining on Saturday and Sunday respectively with a host of other activities taking place including fairground rides, a petting farm and the rather bizarre toe wrestling. Best of all, free ice cream will be on offer all day.
Admission £17 (Under 5s go free)
July 23-24
