Londoners know that the capital is home to some of the most exciting street food in the UK – and now the rest of the country is learning it too, with a little help from national TV.

The city’s street food stalls proved their mettle once again in the BBC’s My Million Pound Menu this week, with Indian burger masters Baba G’s triumphing in the second episode of the series.

Following in the footsteps of last week’s winners BBQ Dreamz, Baba G’s saw off competition from London-based Thai connoisseurs Kra-Pow and Indian-Nepalese concept XXVI, before fighting for a massive £300,000 investment.

Did Baba G’s Bhangra Burgers have you salivating in front of the telly? This is everything you need to know about the street food stall, including where to try its food in London.

What is Baba G’s?

Winners: Baba G's owners Alec Owen and Liz Selway with My Million Pound Menu host Fred Sirieix

Baba G’s is an Indian fast food stall that started more than a decade ago in 2008. It is run by Birmingham-born Alec Owen and his partner Liz Selway. Owen was inspired to open Baba G’s by his well-travelled mother’s love of cooking with international flavours. Owen and Selway, who owned a bar in Goa for four years, teamed up while both were working at Owen’s own street food market Brixton Bazaar. The street food outfit gets its name from a holy man – or Baba – that Owen met while scaling a mountain in India.

What’s on the Baba G’s menu?

Fusion favourite: The lamb jalfrezi Bhangra Burger at Baba G's

Top of the list on Baba G’s menu is the signature Bhangra Burgers. The spiced burgers top patties of either lamb or chicken with a crispy bhaji, and dress it all with mint raita, tamarind sauce and a coriander and tomato salad. Beyond the burgers, Baba G’s continues to put an Indian twist on a host of Western fast food classics. Dishes on the menu include tikka chicken nuggets, pachos (a cross between nachos and poppadoms) and a Club Naanwich, which serves up tandoori chicken and smoked turkey bacon in between pieces of fresh naan.
