The past year has seen a range of fluorescent shades take centre stage, so you can't blame the fashion crowd for doing a complete U-turn by stepping away from the unmissable loud tones and going back to basics.

As fashion month autumn/winter 2019 draws to a close, the streets of New York, London, Milan and Paris have showcased a much subtler, but no-less noticeable colour trend, as a full spectrum of beige hues took the streets by storm: from ivory and sand to caramel and coffee.

In recent years the Scandis have slowly, but surely, reinvented the colour beige to become the epitome of minimalist chic. And now, it's finally being embraced by all.

By playing with textures and silhouettes to pairing pieces with complementing summer-ready whites, here are the four of the most popular ways to wear beige.

1. The humble trench coat

From Burberry's neon check and PVC finish to Frame's sell-out leather design, the classic trench coat has seen multiple contemporary reinventions of late. For spring 2019 the timeless coat has returned to its roots by sticking to a long-line length and caramel colour.

Fashion month's street style acted as a refresher course on how to style the decades old item. Whether you wear it layered over your casual jeans and tee for a elevated day look, belt it in the evening to create a coat dress with a strappy heel, or pair it with several other nude coloured items for a striking tonal look - there are endless ways to embrace the Inspector Gadget number in 2019.

2. The summer-ready off-white trousers

A pair of off white jeans will see you through the spring/summer season with ease. Simply pair with a white tee and trainers for the day and trendy snakeskin boots for the evening.

For those a little scared of spotless white jeans, the cream counterparts act as a less stark and more forgiving solution.

3. Boss a beige blazer

A sand blazer proved to be the most versatile item on the street style scene.

Wear to exude Parisian chic in a tailored tonal look or you could opt to use as an oversized blazer dress. The styling options are endless.

For spring/summer 2019 the silhouette also comes in a variety of materials, from lightweight linen to vintage-inspired corduroy.

4. The smart suit

Unless you're Meghan Markle a beige dress is not an easy item to pull off. So, the fashion set has been dressing up the colour in a more androgynous way, opting for a tailored champagne suit.

A suit is a great investment as you can wear the items separately (see the sandy blazer above), resulting in a much more pleasing cost-per-wear ratio.
