Lin-Manuel Miranda is reportedly in talks to join the cast of the BBC’s adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials.

According to Entertainment Weekly, The Hamilton creator is “close to signing a deal” to play Texan balloonist and adventurer Lee Scoresby.

Dafne Keen has been confirmed to play the novel's central character Lyra Belacqua, while The King’s Speech filmmaker Tom Hooper is rumoured to be directing the series.

All three of the books in the series, Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass, will be covered by the upcoming adaptation, across eight parts.

The trilogy tells the story of Belacqua and another child Will Parry, as they grow up and go on adventures.

The screenplay has been written by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’s Jack Thorne, with Netflix and Apple said to be hoping to secure the rights.

Filming for the series is due to take place this summer, with the series expected to air later 2019 or early 2020.

It’s certainly been a busy few months for Miranda, with his Broadway smash Hamilton opening in London’s West End late last year and his role in Mary Poppins Returns as lamplighter Jack.
