First Dates viewers were left cringing after charity worker Freddie decided to reveal he was allergic to condoms shortly after meeting his date.

He told Rebecca, who was joining him for dinner: “I’m allergic to one thing – latex. It started at the exact same time as I was seeing this girl so I was like, ‘Am I allergic to her?’”

He added: “And then about a year later, I had a new girlfriend, started reacting to something again. I finally figured out that it was a latex allergy.”

The admission prompted Rebecca to ask: "What do your girlfriends dress in?" prompting an embarrassed-looking Freddie to reply ‘condoms’.

Fans of the show shared their surprise at the unusual confession on social media.

One wrote: “Can’t cope with this guy on @FirstDates telling his date he’s allergic to condoms over dinner.”

Another tweeted: “‘Wonder what I should chat about when we are eating dinner, oh I know, condoms, I will definitely win her over with my latex allergy’ This level of cringe is why I watch #firstdates”

A third wrote: “Oh shut the front door has this lad on First Dates brought up a latex allergy! My toes have curled into my feet from the level of cringe.”

First Dates continues Wednesdays at 10pm on Channel 4.
