David Walliams says he can’t believe he gets paid to be a judge on Britain’s Got Talent as the role is “not that hard”.
The comedian, actor and author, 46, is filming auditions for the next series, to air in April, where he is again on the panel alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.
But he played down the skill level required, joking: “It’s not that hard — you just sit there and react to things and say, ‘Yes that was very good,’ or ‘No that did not do it for me.’ It’s really fun to do and it’s one of those shows where you can’t believe you’re getting paid to do it.
"Of course you can’t prepare for it — it would be a mistake to prepare. You just have to sit there and react. I guess it’s the way you say it. The hard thing is, you see on the TV show probably about 100 people.

“We see about 500 and I really think you’ve got to say something different for each person.
“You can’t just say the same thing over and over again. It’s hard to find 500 different ways to say yes or no to someone.”
Walliams was the biggest-selling author of 2017 after publishing four books but denied he is the nation’s new Roald Dahl. He said: “I’m not Harold Pinter, I’m not Roald Dahl — all I can do is just try to get better and better.”
He claims he is too busy with work to take any break: “I’m very bad at saying no to work. So right now I’ve got a very full plate but I like it that way.
“I feel very privileged to have had the success I’ve had and I don’t want to squander it. When you take something like the books — I used to write one a year, last year I had four books out. You find yourself on a wheel of success, which is not the worst place to be.”
Britain's Got Talent returns to ITV later this year.
