West Ham manager David Moyes is lining up Queens Park Rangers forward Eberechi Eze as one of his top transfer targets this summer.

Last night’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United made certain of the Hammers’ Premier League status for another season, allowing Moyes to press ahead with his plans.

The January arrivals of Jarrod Bowen, 23 and Tomas Soucek, 25, are the blueprint for the direction the Scot wants to take in the transfer market; young talents with a point to prove in the Premier League, and Eze fits the bill perfectly. If he has played his last game for Rangers, the 22-year-old signed off in style with a spectacular goal, his 14th of the season, in the 2-2 draw with West Brom.

West Ham face competition from London rivals Crystal Palace for the forward, who started every game in the Championship for Mark Warburton.

It is understood QPR valued Eze at £20million but given the financial impact of Covid-19 on the transfer market and the club’s need to sell, they are likely to accept a lower figure and will not stand in his way of fulfilling a dream move to the Premier League.

West Ham are finishing the season on a high having been on the brink when football returned.

Michail Antonio’s 10th goal of the season, his eighth since the restart, helped them on their way to three games unbeaten before facing Aston Villa on Sunday.

“I can see shoots of improvement,” said Moyes. “The owners can see shoots of improvement too and I think they understand the way we would like to go and the idea we have got.’’
