There are lots of outstanding schools in Southend surrounded by excellent houses. This street in Thorpe Bay is close to Bournes Green Junior school
It is not hard to find a good primary school in Southend; however, the following schools are judged “outstanding” by the government’s education watchdog, Ofsted: Westborough in Macdonald Avenue; Temple Sutton in Eastern Avenue; Bournes Green Infants and Juniors in Ladram Road and Burlescoombe Road in Thorpe Bay; West Leigh Junior in Ronald Hill Grove (the Infant school is judged “good”); and Chalkwell Hall Infants in London Road (the Junior school is judged “good”), the last two both in Leigh-on-Sea.

Southend has four grammar schools, all of which are judged “outstanding”: Southend High for Boys in Prittlewell Chase and Southend High for Girls in Southchurch Boulevard; Westcliff High School for Boys and Westcliff High School for Girls, both in Kenilworth Gardens.

However, there are a number of comprehensive schools which also get above average results; these are: St Bernard’s High RC (girls ages 11 to 18), St Thomas More High RC (boys ages 11 to 18) in Kenilworth Garens and the Eastwood Academy (co-ed ages 11 to 16) in Rayleigh Road, Leigh-on-Sea.
