Colchester: new homes

The old garrison in the centre of Colchester is being redeveloped with 2,500 new flats and houses being built - and some already for sale, discovers Anthea Masey

In May 2013, Taylor Wimpey launches the conversion of the heritage officers’ mess building which is being converted into 19 flats.

Crest Nicholson is building Rosewood, a development of 248 one- and two-bedroom flats and two-, three- and four-bedroom houses in Mill Road, a few miles north of the town centre. Homes currently for sale are priced from £190,000 for a two-bedroom house, £285,000 for a three-bedroom house and from £295,000 for a four-bedroom house.

Weston Homes is building Hawkins Wharf, a large development of 221 new homes along the River Colne in The Hythe, the old port district of Colchester. There are seven three-bedroom town houses and 214 one-, two- and three-bedroom flats and penthouses; prices range from £123,000 for a one-bedroom flat to £230,000 for a three-bedroom penthouse.

Bellway Homes is building Vega, a development of 216 flats and two-, three- and four-bedroom houses in Port Road, close to the river Colne. Prices range from £139,995 for a two-bedroom flat to £224,995 for a four-bedroom semi.

Linden Homes is building Northfields a development of 340 one- and two-bedroom flats and two-, three- and four-bedroom houses on Turner Road, within walking distance of the station. Prices range from £177,950 for a two-bedroom terrace to £265,000 for a four-bedroom terrace.
