Jose Mourinho has revealed he is "so happy' Tottenham have completed the signing of Matt Doherty, insisting he "hated" playing against the full-back.

The 28-year-old completed a £15million move on Sunday, signing a four-year deal to a bring an end to his 10-year stay at Wolves, where he made over 300 appearances.

The versatile full-back has emerged as one of the best in his position under Nuno Espirito Santo, with no Premier League defender scoring more than his 15 goals in all competitions over the past two years.

Mourinho's tactics will allow Doherty an expansive role once more at Spurs, similarly to the attacking position Serge Aurier adopted last season.

Doherty arrives as Tottenham's third signing of the summer, following the acquisitions of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart.

Mourinho has previously expressed his delight with Tottenham's early transfer business, a sentiment he has echoed once more.

"First of all I have to thank Mr Levy and Steve [Hitchen], also the player and agent to trust us and to make it happen," he told the club's official website.

"I hate to play against him, so I'm so, so happy that I don't play against him again. I'm so happy that we have him.

"Incredible career at Wolves...League One, Championship, Premier League and Europa League. He did everything for them, so job done there.

"I know that he's leaving with a lot of pride but this is one new step for him and he's full of motivation. I am so, so happy.

"We always want to have the best players and best possible squad. We are going to have months of competition non-stop and we need a better squad than we had in the last season.

"These three players, Matt, Joe [Hart] and Pierre [Hojbjerg], the club did amazing to give to the squad. It's really, really important for us that we are going to be stronger."
