Shepherd's Bush: schools guide

There's a good choice of primary and secondary schools judged “outstanding” by Ofsted in Shepherd’s Bush, as well as top-performing private schools.

Shepherd’s Bush primary schools judged to be “outstanding” by the Ofsted government education watchdog are: Miles Coverdale in Coverdale Road; St Stephen’s CofE in Uxbridge Road; Pope John RC in Commonwealth Avenue; Brackenbury in Dalling Road; John Betts in Paddenswick Road; Good Shepherd RC in Gayford Road - which is one of the country’s top-performing primaries - and Ark Conway in Hemlock Road.

The two local Catholic secondary schools, both judged “outstanding”, are Cardinal Vaughan (boys, ages 11 to 18) in Addison Road and Sacred Heart (girls ages 11 to 16) in Hammersmith Road. Burlington Danes Academy (co-ed, ages 11 to 18) in Wood Lane also gets the top rating.

The West London Free School, (co-ed, ages 11 to 18), started by journalist Toby Young in Cambridge Grove, Hammersmith, is judged “good”.

The Young Dancers Academy (co-ed, ages 11 to 16) is a private ballet school in Bulwer Street.

Hammersmith also has three top-performing private schools: Godolphin and Latymer (girls, ages 11 to 18) in Iffley Road; Latymer Upper School (co-ed, ages seven to 18) in King Street and St Paul’s Girls’ School (ages 11 to 18) in Brook Green.
