Schools in Muswell Hill

Muswell Hill has so many good state primary schools that few parents, if they can get their children into one of the best ones, bother to look anywhere else.
The following schools are judged to be “outstanding”: St James CofE in Woodside Avenue; Coldfall in Coldfall Avenue; Rhodes Avenue - unsurprisingly, in Rhodes Avenue - and Coppetts Wood in Coppetts Road. The very popular Tetherdown in Grand Avenue gets a “good” rating. Eden is a new free Jewish primary school in Creighton Avenue that opened in September 2011 and is judged to be “good”.  Norfolk House in Muswell Avenue (co-ed, ages four to 11) is a private prep school.

There are three state comprehensives. Fortismere School in Tetherdown gets excellent results at GCSE and is judged to be “outstanding”, as is Alexandra Park in Bidwell Gardens. Highgate Wood in Montenotte Road is judged to be “good”. The Archer Academy (co-ed, ages 11 to 16) is a new free school in Beaumont Close, East Finchley, that opened in September last year.

In nearby Highgate there are two top private schools - Highgate School (co-ed, ages three to 18) and Channing School (girls, ages four to 18).
