Renting guide to Stratford

Stratford's rental market continues to grow with the new developments planned in the area - more properties and lower prices makes Stratford a popular location for renters looking for good-value.

Stratford is very well-connected to major employment areas, with Canary Wharf just nine minutes away and Oxford Circus 20 minutes away, and this has led to a busy rentals market. One-bedroom flats in modern developments range from £1,125 to £1,550 a month. A flat in The Lock in Stratford High Street overlooking the canal is available for £1,125 a month, while a one-bedroom flat on the 30th floor of Stratford Halo, also in the High Street, is renting for £1,550 a month.

The former 2012 London Olympics Athletes’ Village, now renamed East Village, has mainly rental homes. Housing association Triathlon has two-bedroom flats there for intermediate rent (80 per cent of open-market rents) starting from £1,250 a month. The other provider in East Village, Get Living London, a joint venture between the Qatari Diar and Delancey property companies, has one-bedroom flats starting at £1,473 a month.

The rental yield in Stratford is between 4.5 and 5.4 per cent, making this a popular area with buy-to-let investors. Matthew de Monti from Telford Homes, which has three developments in Stratford, says his sales are split roughly three ways, to UK investors, overseas investors and owner-occupiers.
