Humphreys Skitt & Co, Blackheath
The first mention of the firm is on the 12th September, 1793, when George Allen was appointed Agent to the Sun Fire Office for Greenwich, Kent.
Since 1853 the name "Humphreys" has appeared in the title of the firm. Henry Humphreys took into partnership his son, Henry Newman Humphreys, and his chief assistant, Arthur Skitt.
At this time the firm had a considerable auction practice, frequent sales being held at the Auction Mart in the City of London. Towards the end of the nineteenth century they were engaged in estate development in various districts. They were also managing agents of the Sheriff Deptford Estate and the Estate of Sir Coles Child.
