West Byfleet has only been recognised as a separate village to Byfleet itself in recent years. Byfleet dates back to around 1500 BC, possibly earlier.
West Byfleet and Pyrford are highly regarded residential areas stretching out to Woodham and retain the traditional village feel, yet are within commuting distance of London, from West Byfleet station to Waterloo in about 30 minutes. Access to the A3 is at Cobham, joining junction 10 of the M25 about 4 miles.
Recreational facilities are well catered for in the area including 5 golf courses, the Cannons Health & Leisure Club and Woking Leisure Centre.
Schooling is provided by both State and private schools. The American Community School at Cobham and the Dutch Community School at Pyrford cater not only for their namesakes, but also for pupils from around the world and follow an international curriculum.
West Byfleet provides an interesting range of shops including a large supermarket. Close to Byfleet is the Brooklands Shopping centre with Marks & Spencer, Tesco, Argos and other stores. The countryside adjoining West Byfleet is of particular note with lovely walks beside the River Wey Navigation, just beyond Pyrford.
