Curchods, Shepperton

When the Curchods journey first began, we were determined never to be the subject of the horror stories so often told about estate agents. Our aim was to ensure we stood out in a world of service mediocrity, by providing outstanding customer care, quality professional advice and a determination to realise our clients' objectives. We understand the unique pressures of buying and selling property and are committed to making the transaction as smooth, fast and stress free as possible.

The responsibility of handling the sale or purchase of what is likely to be your most expensive asset and probably your best tax free investment opportunity, must be consigned to someone with integrity, who you can trust. As members of the National Association of Estate Agents and the Ombudsman for Estate Agents, we are bound by vigorously enforced Codes of Practice and professional Rules of Conduct. Our greatest asset is our reputation and we will never do anything to compromise our high ethical principles.

Shepperton in very ancient records bears the name of Scepertone or Scipirtun. These names no doubt derived from the Scaephirtun in the Saxon which translates to the habitation of shepherds or shepherd town.

It is easy to find Shepperton on any map which shows the course of the River Thames, just look for the most southerly point and there it lies cradled in the curve. For this reason, many properties in Shepperton have either river views or direct mooring facilities.

There is a rich diversity of properties built over recent centuries right up to the present day, and for those with families, schooling is available for all ages close to the village centre. For the commuter, road connections are excellent, with access to the M3, M25 and Heathrow airport. There is also a comprehensive service from Shepperton station to London, Waterloo and many other destinations.

The village itself has many attractions including Church Square, with its delightful array of old cottages, church and its public houses standing either side of the square. This idyllic setting is often pictured and written about and has changed little over the years. The central pillar to this small community is the Church of St. Nicholas built in 1614 which replaced an earlier church damaged by flood.

For those interested in sport, particularly water sports, many facilities are available in the local area. Apart from the more obvious boating pleasures on the River Thames, there is water skiing, windsurfing and sailing on the many lakes in and around Shepperton. These beautiful lakes now teaming with birds and wildlife came about as a result of extensive gravel extraction over the years and now the village is reaping its reward. It is said that together with the Thames, there is more water here than in the Norfolk Broads.

One of the most interesting and remarkable events connected to history is the fact that within this parish, is the place where Julius Caesar is supposed to have crossed the Thames and given battle to the ancient Britons. It was said that the river could only be forded in one place, and this was at Coway within Shepperton, where sharp stakes had been embedded in the soil under the water to inhibit the advancing Romans. This failed however and the Britons fled but the Coway stakes still remained and some have been found in this area.
